Kidepo National Park covers an area of 1442 km2 is one of Africa’s magnificent wilderness areas, and wildly isolated with a laid-back savannah landscape dissected by undulating mountain ranges. Clout in semi-arid climate with just one rainy season per year, this pure open savannah acacia habitat makes it a wonderful game viewing location in northern Uganda. Kidepo has some of the most amazing faunas of any Uganda National Park containing 77 species of mammals, most of which are endemic to Kidepo and Karamoja area. Some of the rare ones are bat-eared hyena, aardwolf, caracal and cheetah. More to this, are lions, leopards, spotted hyenas, black-backed and side-stripped jackal, Kuddus, chandlers, mountain reedbuck, klipspringer, Guenther’s dikdik,, elephants, Bohor reedbuck, Jackson’s hartebeest and many more. Five species of primates are recorded in Kidepo, excitingly the endemic Kavirondo bushbaby. An outstanding birdlife of 463 species of birds recorded and 26 un confirmed, among the rare ones in Uganda are, the famous Ostrich, kori bustard, secretary bird, carmine, little green and red-throated bee eater, Abyssinian roller, k,aramoja apalis, among other species. Kidepo also is renowned for 56 species of birds of prey recorded including verreaux’s eagle, Egyptian vulture and pygmy falcon are believed to be endemic to Kidepo and karamoja region.
