Queen Elizabeth National Park in Uganda

Queen Elizabeth

Named after Queen Elisabeth II of England the park is located in western Uganda and in of the biggest national park at 1,987 km2 and gazetted in 1954. It is well now for it’s abundant wildlife of more than 100 species of mammals, including elephants, buffaloes, lions, leopards, and primates among others. It is also highly endowed with birdlife, with more than 606 species recorded, among others the extra ordinary shoebill stork. The park is mostly and particularly known for its rare tree-climbing lions, a feature unique to the lions in this park. The park has also some of the most beautiful and scenic views with volcanic features like volcanic cones, deep craters and salt lakes. It is ranked as one of the world’s highest biodiversity concentrated hotspot rich in both wildlife and birdlife.
