Kibale National Park covers an area of 297km2 and contains some of the beautiful and most varied tracts of tropical forests cover in Uganda. Locates in western Uganda, Kibale boasts the highest diversity and density of primates on the African continent. It is home to 13 different species of primates including the rare L’hoest monkeys and threatened red colobus monkeys among others as well as 1450 population of chimpanzee, representing the largest population of chimpanzees in Uganda. Its varied altitude supports different types of forest habitat from evergreen tropical forest to dry tropical forest to woodland and savannah. Kibale National Park, is a birding paradise as well, with 325 bird species recorded including the rare Albertine rift endemics such as black-capped apalis, blue-headed sunbird, collared apalis. Dusky crimson-wing, purple-breasted sunbird and red-faced woodland warbler, among others that inhabit Kibale. Other mammals are also found in the park including forest elephants, buffaloes, leopards, bush pigs and duikers. It is also a place for reptiles, amphibian and butterflies lovers.
